Kwanele Mkhwananzi will be part of the official South African delegation that will be attending the World Conference on Youth in Sri Lanka, Colombo
THE Department of Trade and Industries has nominated University of Zululand’s (Unizulu) Kwanele Mkhwanazi to be part of the official South African delegation that will be attending the World Conference on Youth in Sri Lanka, Colombo from the 4 to12 May.
A Unizulu Co-operative Management graduate, who is currently doing his Bachelor of Commerce, B Com and is the President of the South African Youth Co-operative Network, Mkhwanazi, said he was excited about the opportunity.
“This conference is unique in that it will bring together governments and young people to jointly feed into the future development agenda,” he said.
The conference is themed, ‘Mainstreaming Youth in the Post 2015 DevelopmentAgenda’.
DTI’s Youth Director Vijay Valla said: ‘We trust that Mkhwanazi will uplift the name of our country and make us all proud.’
The outcome document of the conference will be called the ‘Colombo Declaration on Youth’.
The United Nations Secretary-General will then consider this document an important input from Member States, youth, youth-led organisations, other NGOs, business and the media as to how youth should be incorporated in the Post-2015 Sustainable Development process and reference it in his synthesis report.
It is expected this document will be recognised by the General Assembly at its 69th session as a critical contribution to the ongoing Post-2015 Sustainable Development process that succeeds the Millennium Development Goals.
The delegation is led by the Presidency of South Africa.
