Industrial zone bolsters Bay enterprises

Industrial Development Zone (IDZ) give three small businesses the gear to go forward

THE Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (RBIDZ) provided three local enterprises with the tools to build their businesses.

Through its small, medium and micro enterprise (SMME) programme, RBIDZ handed over various working equipment required by the start-ups on Friday.

Empangeni business, Kusile Zulu Trading, received computers and relevant accessories while 100% black female owned Richards Bay enterprises, Inguqunguqu Women’s Cooperative and Imvelo Industrial Services, were given gardening equipment.

RBIDZ Supply Chain Manager, Mzwandile Madlanga, said the zone has been pursuing both direct SMME initiatives and indirect enterprise and supplier development through preferential procurement.

‘In the recent financial year (2013/2014), the RBIDZ has committed at least R50, 5-million or 32, 5% of the capital project or infrastructure development towards indirect enterprise development in the form of sub-contracting, whilst preferential procurement amounted to R7, 8-million or 16% of the total spends.

‘Further to that, the RBIDZ makes efforts not only in terms of sub-contracting or preferential procurement, but also direct SMME support initiatives.

‘To realise this goal, the RBIDZ officially handed over computers and gardening equipment to these three Enterprise Development Beneficiaries.’
