CANDICE Olivier recently won a fight well above her weight class, proving that dynamite comes in small packages.
Boxing clever with slick tactical moves, the local angler, who only weighed in at 45kg for the ’bout’, managed to land a knockout blow to a prized 201kg Queen Blue Marlin after wearing the ‘beast’ out.
Olivier was trawling 500 meters north of Richards Bay last Monday, targeting a big Yellow Fin Tuna that had been spotted in the waters of late.
Using a 100lbs lure and trawling for four hours eventually paid off when her rod literally took off like a freight train.
Olivier buckled up and got stuck in immediately trading blows with her adversary.
After a 100 minute epic battle, Olivier delivered the final blow to win the bout.
This beauty of a fish was caught on the boat Galavant, with skipper Wayne Ritchie, Dudley Barrett, Joshua Olivier and Julio Ritchie in Olivier’s corner.
‘I am absolutely elated over the catch,’ said Olivier.
‘It is an experience of a lifetime and I enjoyed every minute of it.
‘I could not have asked for a better crew on board to be there with me and share the special moment..
‘I think I am hooked on this fishing thing and may need to go buy myself my own rod now.’
