I would just like to share my not-so-shocked reaction to SAPS in Richards Bay.

I reside in a complex in Arboretum and we have had numerous break-ins in the complex.

Last night, a suspect was found cowering an the bushes in the common area and fled.

Unable to find him, I contacted SAPS via the Vodacom emergency number.

This was due to the usual non-existent signal on Vodacom in the area.

I asked for a dog unit to search the complex.

The officer sounded like he was napping and said he would send someone.

That call was at 9.26pm on 23 April. It is now 12.14pm on 24 April and I am still waiting for the team to come out.

In future I will rather phone them and ask for the mortuary vehicle and probably get a faster response.

I feel it is pathetic that SAPS are still so blasé about their services that we, in turn, pay for.
