REACHING the end of my political career, which has spanned some 40 years, I reflect upon the transition of a beautiful country from criticism and ostracism to the truly democratic system we now have.

Democracy is not interlinked with the allocation of worship sites or handing over of title deeds. Those are responsibilities of relative departments.

Over the years, individuals and non-governmental organisations have given their lives for a truly democratic South Africa, not overlooking where the need exists with this God-given freedom.

I urge everyone, young and old, whether you belong to the group of my well-wishers and supporters or not, to exercise your democratic right and cast your vote on 7 May.

Your right to vote is enshrined in our Constitution and no one may deprive you of that right.

Moreover, who you vote for is your personal selection and no one can know who you vote for unless you tell them.

I hope that you will not squander your right to vote.
