AMAKHOSI representing local municipalities will now have their say during council meetings convened by the uThungulu District.
This after the municipality welcomed the official integration of the traditional and political leadership into its council recently.
The District aMakhosi were inducted into office and officially sworn in by Magistrate B Ntshangase at Council Chambers in Richards Bay last month.
This is part of an initiative by the KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs to promote the participation of aMakhosi in council proceedings.
District Mayor Thembeka Mchunu welcomed the role of the aMakhosi in Council meetings, adding that their knowledge and relationship with communities was integral to the efficient implementation of service delivery.
The Council meeting also heralded the final meeting for District Speaker, Musa Mzimela, who has taken up other opportunities in the uMkhanyakude District.
