Last leg of Tugela marathon

The Tugela River was full of paddlers on Saturday

THE Kwazulu-Natal river racing season closed on Sunday with the finish of the Tugela Marathon on Dunlop’s farm near Mandeni.

Eighty-five paddlers took part in this race starting at Middledrift last Saturday.

The sponge cake went to Dylan and Rudi Bense who were first over the line on both days.

Recording accurate overall results was, however, a challenge as paddlers were allowed to choose whether or not to do the horseshoe portage on Day 1, this cuts off 8km of river with a 600m run.

On day two, paddlers started the race between 7.25am and 7.45am.
