Pirates on the Tugela

Rafters enjoy fun on the river in the 46th Tugela Raft Race

THE 46th Tugela Raft Race was held on Saturday and what a colourful event it was with 20 rafts putting to water.

Teams dressed up and decorated their rafts some as pirates and others as sailors.

The ‘racing snakes’ raced ahead for line honours at the Tugela River mouth while most contestants enjoyed just floating happily down the river.

Pirate crews threw eggs at one another and the cannon was extremely effective hurling various objects of all kinds of shapes and sizes at anyone within range.

At the R102 bridge, team Sappi was in front with a strong challenge from the two crews on the Port Natal Branch International Police Association rafts.
