School sports action

The home team then put the final nail in the visitors' coffin to claim a dominant 33-8 victory.

ACTION, skill, talent and closely-competed games were the story of the day on Saturday when Grantleigh College hosted Treverton College in rugby, hockey and netball.

All age groups came out firing and kept the parents and spectators thoroughly entertained.

The first team action got underway with the boys’ hockey.

The game was dominated by Treverton, but thanks to great defence and holding on, the game ended in a 0-0 draw.

The girls’ netball followed, where the home side dominated.

The first quarter was closely competed, with the home side leading 4-3. The Grantleigh girls upped their game in the second quarter to increase their lead to 15-3.

The third quarter’s momentum did not change, with the score increasing to 20-6.

The home team then put the final nail in the visitors’ coffin to claim a dominant 33-8 victory.

The girls’ hockey followed, which was evenly contested and ended in a 0-0 draw.

The final first team game was the rugby, which everyone was waiting for.

The game did not disappoint, with the home side stealing a last-second 27-24 win over a physical Treverton outfit.

Grantleigh went into the shed at half time with their tails up, after a 15-14 lead.

Tries came from Sizwe Mthembu and Josh Harvey, with Dandré Bischoff converting one try and a penalty.

The second half heated up, with bigger hits coming in.

With the score reading 20-24 to the visiting side, it was scrumhalf Dylan Yeld who crossed the whitewash in the dying seconds to steal the victory.

Ruan Petorious and Yeld dotted down in the second half, with Bischoff converting the last try.
