‘Death trap’ finally locked up

Speedy repair to dangerous electrical box.

THE ‘death trap’ at Acacia Court in Norman Tedder Lane in Empangeni – an exposed electrical box – has finally been repaired.

This follows the Zululand Observer article last week revealing that the public ‘danger zone’ has been left unattended since October last year.

According to a concerned tenant, the door to an electrical meter room had disintegrated and fallen off, exposing the live electrical equipment to the public.

After contacting the municipality about the matter, the municipality’s advised the owner of the building that according to the electricity bylaws, the owner was responsible for the maintenance of the facilities in which the electrical unit is housed. A written instruction was issued that the situation had to be rectified by October.

No follow-up was undertaken and no repairs done – until this week after the newspaper article.
