‘BE the change you wish to see in the world’ by Mahatma Gandhi is what John Ross College (JRC) pupils believe in as they recently launched the school’s health club.

Dealing with issues such as HIV, exercise, personal hygiene, water treatment, water conservation and other disease prevention behaviours, JRC Health club aims to provide a platform for pupils to support each other and their school by promoting healthy behaviours without feeling singled out.

The Health Club, which is run by teachers Mr and Mrs Adekola, will also work at raising health awareness in the community by mobilising pupils with regards to HIV awareness, activism, community outreach, and promoting values and virtues that will enhance general wellness for both pupils and community members.

During the course of the year, the club will also invite guest speakers to train pupils on topics such as physical exercise, first aid administration, universal health care precaution, healthy food habits, personal hygiene, proper trash disposal, community vaccination drives, water purification and proper water storage.

At the end of the academic year, pupils who attend the club meetings on a regular basis, and are actively involved, will receive certificates for their contribution towards a healthier school and community.
