10 years for murder

Man sentenced for murdering his brothers' girlfriend

ALMOST three years after murdering his brother’s girlfriend, Njabulo Shandu (24) of Bingoma Reserve was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on Tuesday at the Empangeni Magistrate Court.

In 2011, Shandu was arrested and granted bail after pleading not guilty. Following thorough investigations, his sentence is to be served at the Empangeni Qalakabusha Prison.

‘Shandu went to visit his brother and his brother’s girlfriend at their residence.

‘The brother who had been listening to music and paying no mind to the conversation between Shandu and the deceased was soon distracted when Shandu punched the deceased in her face,’ said Empangeni Magistrate Court Prosecutor, Zakhele Nzuza.

‘The brother then tried to grab Shandu off his girlfriend but was punched unconscious before he could recover and help the woman.

‘Shandu then pulled out a bush knife and hit the deceased on her head and fled the scene,’ added Nzuza.

After gaining consciousness the brother alerted the neighbours who subsequently called the police and an ambulance but the woman had died on scene.
