Teenagers against drug abuse

Empangeni high school is fighting the war against drug abuse

SUBSTANCE abuse in South Africa is a growing and a worrying trend, especially since abusers are getting younger.

There are many types of drugs available to our children and it is not only illegal drugs that are a cause for concern.

Peer Educators, such as Teenagers Against Drug Abuse(TADA) and Drugwize Marshalls, are trained to promote awareness in primary schools, high schools and the community, thereby reducing the risk of substance abuse among pupils.

TADA at Empangeni High School has 60 members and is not only working against drug abuse, but is also fighting against the threat of bullying within the school.

Members participate through brainstorming, discussions and role-playing.

Peer Educators become knowledgeable on substance abuse and the link between crime, HIV/AIDS and human trafficking.
