ESHOWE and national non-governmental organisations and community members packed the Inkhanyezi Regional Court on Thursday to witness the sentencing of King Dinizulu Clinic HIV counsellor, Nkosingibhile Miyewa.
While protestors sang and danced outside the court, Miyewa was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for rape and has been declared unfit to possess a firearm.
A court order was also issued for the Department of Social Development to investigate the circumstances regarding his children who are staying with his mother.
The sentencing relates to an incident at the clinic where the survivor was raped in the HIV testing room.
She had gone to the King Dinizulu Clinic in eShowe for her first pregnancy check-up on 8 January last year.
On being told she was pregnant, Miyewa advised her to get tested for HIV and she was sent to the HIV testing room at the clinic.
Miyewa took advantage of her lack of familiarity of the testing procedures and raped her.
She immediately reported the incident to other clinic staff.
