Explosion in Mbazwane

Robbers blast open safes

BETWEEN midnight and 3am on Monday explosions rang out from the Jock Morrison store in Mbazwane.

It is believed approximately five suspects entered the store shortly after midnight.

Two held up the shop’s security guards at gunpoint while at least three others forced their way into the store.

Explosives were used to open two safes containing fairly large sums of money.

Smaller items, such as cigarettes and juices, were also stolen.

No one was injured in the explosion.

Shortly after the explosion local SAP units were dispatched to the scene where they found the security guards unharmed.

The forensic team from Richards Bay was notified and arrived at the scene with sniffer dogs, followed by other SAP departments including the explosive experts.

No arrests have been made as yet but SAPS has opened an investigation and is reviewing all evidence retrieved from the crime scene.
