WHILE much attention is being paid to the rhino poaching problem, farmers are having to deal with local poaching without much attention from the funders.
There are not many endangered species in the eShowe area, but anything that moves is considered fair game for poachers with packs of dogs, snares or, in farm dams, gill nets.
Many poachers are apprehended or snares removed, but the killing of an antelope is not considered a crime and most are released with not even a fine by the police or the courts.
This is increasing in most farming areas and is a concern to farmers who could also become victims of crime as armed persons trespass on their land.
