Popular Swedish musician visits Hluhluwe
Swedish singer entertains school children
CELEBRATING outstanding matric results, pupils of Hluhluwe’s CwaKeme High School were rewarded with a performance by popular Swedish singer, Måns Zelmerlöw.
Despite outcries of a lack of basic teaching at the school, CwaKeme’s Class of 2013 achieved an incredible 100% pass rate. This result was a far cry from the school’s 2011 pass rate of only 28%.
No stranger to CwaKeme High School, Måns Zelmerlöw first visited a year ago when he performed at the launch of the Star for Life programme. He has subsequently become this school’s Star for Life sponsor, pledging to support excelling pupils with university bursaries. He also sponsored food for pupils’ extra lessons.
According to the Star for Life Executive Director, Dr Per Strand, ‘The SFL programme is effective because it generates incentives for learners to change behaviours that put their health at risk and undermine their schooling. The hard work that is done by SFL coaches, learners and teachers every day gets a little easier and a lot more fun with visits from music stars like Måns Zelmerlöw.’
