THE Equalizers felt the ‘Fury’ in the Five-Man Paintball Tournament during the weekend at the Paintball Farm, just outside Pietermaritzburg, when they went down in the finals to team Fury.
This result was an exceptional one for the local, trigger-happy enthusiasts, as it was the first time competing in a five-man tournament.
The side competed in Division 4 against teams from around KwaZulu-Natal.
‘We took this event as an opportunity to learn how the five-man game works and did not expect to do very well against teams that have been doing it for a couple of years already,’ said Captain Gerhard Heyneke.
The local lads produced mixed results, winning a couple of points convincingly and progressed through to the semi-finals.
The team shot their way through team Almost Epic, beating them 2-0 to secure a shot in the finals.
But team Fury unleashed their wrath on the Equalizers, living up to their name to win the competition.
‘Taking second place in our first five-man event was better than we expected and we are happy with the result’, said Heyneke.
The Equalizers used more than 26 000 paintballs at this event and learnt that the five-man format is more expensive and strategic compared to the three-man format they are used to.
The team who competed are: Tiaan Steenkamp, Abri Steenkamp, Damian Millingham, Johan Pretorius, Gerhard Heyneke, Cornelius Badenhorst, Steven Barnes and Ivan Preston.
