FELIXTON College was in a class of their own on Saturday after the first cricket side handed out a free cricketing lesson to visiting rivals Grantleigh College, thrashing them by 100 runs at home in a 40 over encounter.
Grantleigh won the toss and elected to field first on a wicket that produced great turn and swing.
The home side put on a respectable 169/5 in their time out at the crease.
Opening batsmen Abdullah Mohammed 38 and Reikert Viljoen 25 both played a solid innings to get their side to a defendable total.
Off-spinner Jonathan Hunter 2/30 in six overs and fast/medium bowler Chad Duncan 1/16 in six overs did the work with the nut.
Needing just 4.25 runs per over for victory looked reachable for the visiting side.
But the home side had other ideas when they took two wickets in the first two overs to leave the score reading 8/2 after two.
The pressure kept piling on as the bowlers put the ball in the right areas with the fielders backing their bowlers with great fielding.
Sheldon Getkate found himself on a hat-trick in the 11th over, but just missed out when the ball was edged in the gap for a boundary.
Michael Dalais took a great catch under pressure on the boundary, which he followed up with a wicket off his first ball of his opening spell to take the score to 62/7.
Grantleigh fell short after being bowled out for 69 runs in the 17th over with Taylor Gielink 19 and Timothy Russell 16 the top scorers.
Dalais 1/2, Viljoen 2/2 and Getkate 4/19 were the pick of the home side’s bowling attack.
