Billfish Classic lures overseas entries

The 2014 SADSAA Nissan Billfish Classic is around the corner and teams from all over South Africa have entered.

BUCKLE-IN, bait up and prepare for gruelling fights.

The prestigious 2014 SADSAA Nissan Billfish Classic, hosted by Richards Bay Ski Boat Club, is around the corner.

The complete tag-and-release competition has more than 60 entries so far with the competition kicking off on Tuesday 18 February with a briefing, followed by fishing from 19-22 February.

Teams have entered from all regions of South Africa with a couple of international entries as well.

Due to the catch and release rules of the competition, anglers have to produce a photo and colour release band to the judges for the weigh-in.

Great news for fishermen is that Billfish are on the bite and have been spotted in large numbers recently.

Saturday saw a 45-50kg sailfish being caught and released, Sunday a 191kg black marlin being reeled in and on Tuesday this, week a whopping 221kg blue marlin took the bait.

With nice size fish in the deep waters of Richards Bay the competition will heat up and produce many a great catch followed by pub fishing yarns.

With R100 000 cash up for grabs for first prize, R50 000 (second) and R30 000 (third), fishermen have been lured to land the ‘big cheque’.
