Lord of lightning
Mtunzini congregants enjoy a hair-raising adventure.
YOUNG and old experienced a hair-raising adventure on Sunday night as Anchor Church Mtunzini presented ‘Lord of Lightning’- the first in a series on God and Science.
The charged demonstration was presented by Unizul Science Centre Director Derek Fish, who moonlights as an elder at the church.
About 130 people ranging from the ages of three to 83 were attracted to the exhilarating show.
Stars of the show were a 50 000 Volt van de Graf Generator and a 5 000 Volt Tesla coil, allowing Fish to change hairstyles, illuminate hand-held light-bulbs and mysteriously unwind a roll of toilet paper!
‘As a Christian and a scientist, I have always been saddened by the apparent rift between God and Science, often seen as ‘fact versus faith’,’ said Fish.
‘To me there is no conflict – Science and Christianity are answering different questions and we need them both. In the words of Albert Einstein: ‘Science without religion is lame and religion without science is blind!’
The series will continue on the second Sunday of every month from 6pm–7pm at Anchor Church, 5 Williams Road, Mtunzini.
