We stand in awe
Imagine, then, jetting off to America as a blind person, with only your trusty guide dog to help you through that experience!

ANY person who has ever flown overseas knows this is a daunting undertaking.
There are many challenges and potential mishaps ahead, from losing one’s passport, to getting lost and even becoming the victim of crime.
Imagine, then, jetting off to America as a blind person, with only your trusty guide dog to help you through that experience!
We salute Lisa Visagie and her companion Bagheera on their safe return from a three-month study trip.
A familiar sight in the streets, shopping malls and streets of Richards Bay, the pair took faith to a new level with their latest adventure.
And what an example they show to the rest of mankind in terms of seeing possibilities rather than obstacles before them.
Lisa, a psychology graduate, undertook the trip to further her objective of obtaining her PhD in Psychology.
She has set her sights on this goal and is well on the way to achieving it despite the obvious challenges and difficulties.
Retriever-cross Bagheera’s companionship allows her freedom of movement and independence and of course the strength and support of her husband and friends are essential in a tough environment.
Lisa is also active in educating young pupils on the role played by guide dogs and especially on the need to protect and care for one’s eyes.
We, who often complain about the hand life has dealt us, could do well to examine this young woman’s example and learn from her courage, optimism, commitment and faith.
She is one role model of whom the city can truly be proud.
Lisa also serves as a mirror against which we can reflect our own lives.
