Mini cricket is the winner

Richards Bay Christian School comes out tops

RICHARDS Bay Christian School (RBCS) managed to make it two out of two against St Catherine’s on Wednesday when the U7 and U9 boys’ teams beat their visitors in a mini cricket match.

The U7 game was extremely close and came right down to the wire, with the home side stealing a one run victory.

St Catherine’s batted first and put on 23 runs, thanks to useful contributions from Owami Mbatha (3) and Mohammed Goolam (4).

Richards Bay Christian School ended on 24 runs thanks to Elgan du Plessis (6) and Timothy Nene (6).

RBCS claimed an 18-run victory in the U9 encounter.

St Catherine’s headed to the crease first and put on 32 runs thanks to Jamie Smith who smashed 9 runs.

The home side managed 50 runs thanks to a great knock from Julian Erasmus (12) and Daniel de Gois (7).

The format for mini cricket is simple.

Each child bats for six balls and bowls six balls.

If one goes out, it’s minus two runs to your individual score.

At the end of the game, cricket is always the winner.
