Hlabisa woman attacked, burnt to death

A man had reportedly been aggressively knocking at the deceased's door, demanding money

REPORTS indicate that a Masinya Reserve woman was brutally attacked and then burnt to death when her hut was set alight near the Ndabazabanina School in Ezibayeni on Sunday.

Police and firefighters responded to a report of the fire and discovered the owner’s body inside the hut’s charred remains after extinguishing the fire.

She was identified as Khonzile Elizabeth Ngema (59).

A relative of the deceased told police that the deceased sent her a message, reporting that a man was knocking on her door, aggressively demanding entry.

Police found a blood-stained spade at the scene.

A 27-year-old suspect was then tracked down and found drunk in his homestead, his clothes spattered with blood stains.

He was arrested and is detained at the police cells pending further investigation.
