Empangeni’s Sanlam Centre reports store closure after five Covid-19 positives
The store is working closely with the Department of Health to ensure protocols are followed

A LETTER sent to tenants from Sanlam Centre management informs that five staff members at the Pick n Pay store have tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.
The Zululand Observer was on scene late this morning (Saturday) after SAPS members were asked by store management to assist with getting patrons out of the store.
This follows reported routine testing of all staff earlier this month and the results having been made known via the NICD and Department of Health.
King Cetshwayo SAPS spokesperson Captain Mdlalose told the ZO that police were called to remove customers from the supermarket this morning.
‘Store management contacted us saying that test results which were conducted recently, came through today.
‘The departments of Health and Environmental Affairs were contacted.’
The ZO received a copy of the Sanlam Centre Management letter which read:
‘This circular serves to advise that we have just been informed that five staff members of Pick n Pay have been tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. The management of Pick n Pay are working closely with the Department of Health to ensure protocols are followed to contain the spread of the virus. The store will be closed for decontaminating and disinfecting, and will only reopen once the Department of Health gives them the approval to do so. The rest of the centre will be open and trade as normal. We will keep you updated of the progress of the situation’.
The ZO is awaiting formal response and further information from Pick ‘n Pay.
