Trucking industry supports relief efforts in Mbazwana

The Road Freight Association (RFA) spearheaded the project to distribute rice secured from Thailand through the Trucking Wellness Programme (TWP)

QUICK collaboration between key road freight industry players saw 500kg of rice being delivered to Mbazwana last week.

The Road Freight Association (RFA) spearheaded the project to distribute rice secured from Thailand through the Trucking Wellness Programme (TWP).

This initiative of the National Bargaining Council for the Road Freight and Logistics Industry (NBCRFLI), did not hesitate to offer one of its vehicles and drivers to make the delivery to Mbazwana.

The rice was received from the international humanitarian organisation, Tzu Chi, in Thailand.

Tzu Chi means ‘compassionate relief’ and the organisation has an extensive network of volunteers and employees who have been awarded special consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

The rice forms part of food parcels distributed by Feed Rural KZN .

‘Through this and other generous donations, we will be able to distribute 110 parcels supporting almost 500 people for three weeks,’ said Feed Rural KZN’s Tonya Khoury. ‘We hope there will be more very soon.’

‘We are proud to have played a role in facilitating this relief effort amid the Covid-19 pandemic,’ said RFA Chief Executive, Gavin Kelly.

‘We thank Trucking Wellness for coming on board so quickly and so willingly.

‘Once again, the road freight industry has shown that, as long as there are trucks on our roads, South Africa will not stop functioning,’ said Kelly.
