CANSA goes virtual to fund-raise

The organisation has put together online fitness classes as a way to help generate much-needed funds

RESORTING to virtual fund-raising, the Richards Bay CANSA Care Centre has had to go back to the drawing board after several fund-raisers had to be cancelled.

These included various Shavathons at schools and corporates, the annual Relay for Life, and golf day fund-raisers, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic and related lockdown.

Creative fund-raising

Community Mobiliser: Fund Development, Thobile Gumede, said the organisation has had to establish creative ways to raise funds for its programmes, projects and centre operations.

‘As communities remain in lockdown, we have put together online fitness classes to generate funds.

‘We invite communities to join the fitness fun and also look at making a donation to the association to continue with our work of providing services to cancer patients, survivors and the community at large.

‘CANSA care homes in Richards Bay, Bloemfontein, Pretoria, Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town continue with accommodating cancer patients during the lockdown,’ said Gumede.

‘These operate with strict protective measures and disinfection procedures in place because cancer patients’ compromised immune systems make them vulnerable to infections.

‘We are in need of sanitation supplies, and other equipment and donations will be most welcome to help alleviate our costs during this trying period.

‘Public support will also assist us to continue providing online support, telephonic counselling, stoma services, and keep our CANSA care home services open for our patients,’ Gumede said.

Information about all fund-raising efforts is available on the CANSA Richards Bay Facebook page.
