Daniel Pieter Louw (71), fondly known as ‘Piet’, passed away on 25 January with his wife and son by his side.

Piet was born in Zululand in 1942 and stayed here his whole life.

He began his school career at Kwambonabi Primary School and graduated from Empangeni High School as head boy.

He was married to Lynette Caroline Louw in 1971 and they had recently celebrated 42 loving years together whilst on holiday in Dubai.

After a long and successful career in the motor industry, Piet was enjoying retirement on Zuka Private Game Reserve where he was near his family in a place where he was most at home.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Piet was an avid sportsman in his younger days and remained a keen golfer and fisherman to the end.

One of Piet’s greatest attributes was his ability to make everyone he met feel at ease and welcome in his presence.

This has been validated by all the amazing and sincere messages that we, as a family, have received from all who knew him, both young and old, and for this we are eternally grateful.

Piet was the epitome of a gentleman whose natural charm touched the lives of many.

A generous and exceptionally kind man, Piet loved children of all ages and had the ability to make everyone laugh.

In time we may forget the things he did and the things he said but we will never forget how he made us all feel.

Piet is survived by his wife, Lynne, two sisters, Jenny Thompson and Joan Kewley, his children, Anton and Kathryn and his four grandchildren, Georgina and Mathew Louw and Ethan and Kaitlyn Hawkes.

A service celebrating his life will be held on Friday 31 January at the NG Kerk in Kerk St, Empangeni at 11am.

Friends of Piet and the family will be received thereafter at the Empangeni Country Club
