Ladysmith Black Mambazo wins grammy
Homegrown musicians wins Best World Music Album.
THE South African world-famous music group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo has put KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa firmly in the limelight by winning the coveted Grammy music award for the fourth time.
The traditional South African acapella outfit combined with the Gipsy Kings, a group from Arles and Montpellier in the south of France, in the production of the album, ‘Singing for Peace around the world’ which was named the Best World Music Album.
This makes the group, led by founder Joseph Shabalala, a living legend of African music.
This award comes as Shabalala is in the process of officially retiring from leading the group which he has led to success for more than 50 years.
It is hoped that now that now that Shabalala has retired, he will pass on his knowledge of music to the younger generation.
