Online platform offers drug addicts valuable support
Online NA meetings weekly for addicts countrywide during Covid-19 lockdown

AS gatherings and meetings have been suspended owing to the Covid -19 regulations, Narcotics Anonymous (NA) members in South Africa and abroad are finding support via online meeting platforms facilitated by the organisation.
More than 100 online meetings are conducted weekly where people can interact and hear messages of hope and how to stay clean.
Available free to addicts and anyone who may be interested in attending meetings, NA has launched four midnight online sessions for those who can’t afford the data costs during the day.
NA has taken advantage of data costs which are reduced or bundled for free from the networks between midnight and 5am, and extends an invitation to all persons who need support.
The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using narcotics.
Sharing his experience of using the online platform, Vuka said it was easy to access and very user friendly.
‘My disease is a disease of not being able to handle life on life’s terms. It is incurable and progressive in nature.
‘Through the programme I’m learning more every day on how to handle things such as deadlines at work, a healthy relationship with my wife, paying rent, budgeting and meeting family responsibilities. The best part of NA for me is its accessibility,’ said Vuka.
‘With the online support community available at the touch of my fingertips, I’m able to do recovery from the comfort of my home, or anywhere I happen to be for that matter.
‘This has given me much-needed relief from the madness in my own head and has helped me continue this journey of recovery.
‘If you believe you have a drug problem and are unable to get to a physical meeting, I recommend you consider attending the online meeting at https://virtual-na.org/meetings/.’
There is no cost to attend and no booking is required.
If you need help finding a physical meeting or more information, phone the helpline 0861 00 6962 or visit NA’s website http://na.org.za.
