Community forums continue crime fighting from home
According to Richards Bay CPF chairperson, Robert Mbuyazi, office bearers and additional members of CPFs will continue to support the SAPS, but from the confines of their individual homes
MEMBERS of community policing forums (CPFs) will take to social media platforms to support crime fighting efforts during the lockdown period.
According to Richards Bay CPF chairperson, Robert Mbuyazi, office bearers and additional members of CPFs will continue to support the SAPS, but from the confines of their individual homes.
They will make use of WhatsApp chat groups to relay information to SAPS and provide localised and vital intelligence regarding crime.
‘I urge all CPF structures and representatives to obey the call and let our leaders at all CPF sub-structures continue with their good work from their own homes, and be alert to crime at their own premises and that of neighbours and filter information to the police.
‘We are calling on all residents to act responsibly and adhere to the rules and regulations during this period to overcome the Covid- 19 crisis and ensure safety for all,’ said Mbuyazi.
My SAPS App
Mbuyazi urged community members to download the My SAPS App, which enables citizens to communicate with police from the comfort of their own homes.
The mobile app can only be downloaded from smart phones, and access to the app store for IOS/Google Play Store for Android smartphones and for Unstructured Supplementary Services Data (USSD) string on featured phones, by dialing *134*10111# .
Designed to provide South Africans with a new and easy way to police services and information, citizens can stay connected with police via the app during the lockdown period and beyond.
Citizens can interact with law enforcement officials more effectively, by providing tip-offs anonymously through the app, find the nearest police station and facilities and have quick access to all SAPS social media platforms.
