A SUSPECT accused of stealing 125 litres of diesel cannot be prosecuted until the fuel’s rightful owner steps forward.
KwaMbonambi SAPS spokesperson Aubrey Msane is calling on any businesses that might have had dyed diesel stolen in the area last week, to report to the Kwa-Mbonambi police station.
The accused, Thobisani Mabika, appeared in the KwaMbonambi Magistrate’s Court last Thursday to face charges of possession of suspected stolen property, but was released when the public prosecutor declined putting him on trial owing to insufficient evidence.
Last Wednesday, Mabika’s bakkie was pulled over by police at a stop-and-go in the Nzalabantu Reserve.
‘His vehicle registration, according to the SAPS’ National and Traffic Information System, does not exist and the driver was searched, as well as the vehicle,’ said Msane.
‘Five 25 litre containers containing diesel were found in the bakkie and when questioned about the fuel, he was unable to give a satisfactory account of where he obtained it.’
