The crime spree included both business and house burglaries in residential and township areas. Last weekend alone, Empangeni SAPS attended to more than six burglary cases.
Beginning last Friday, a group of stokvel women were robbed of their savings worth R16 000. The seven women met at a rondavel at the Mazimazane Reserve in eNseleni where three men held them up and made off with the cash. It is believed the robbery may have been a premeditated move.

Also in eNseleni, a man woke up to find a burglar standing over him with a bush knife. The thief threatened him before making off with a cellphone and cash. On the same night, a primary school in eNseleni was broken into and robbed of their soccer kit worth R21 000.
The burglaries spread into residential areas in Empangeni where last Monday, homeowners returned to their residence in Sigma Crescent to find the window had been forced open. It is believed the criminals may have been interrupted as none of their property was stolen. Further incidents were reported in Richem, Intrepid, Turnbull and President Swart streets.
