‘HERE are the dogs’
A group of gunmen apparently uttered these words before they opened fire at three police officers in eSikhaleni in the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to the King Cetshwayo police cluster spokesperson, Capt Mbongeni Mdlalose, the three officers were conducting a routine patrol at the old shopping centre when the gunmen shot at them.
A female police officer was seriously wounded and is currently fighting for her life in hospital after she sustained gunshot wounds to her stomach, face and arm.
The second officer was grazed on his arm by a bullet, while the third constable escaped unharmed.
Three cases of attempted murder have been opened, but no arrests have been made.
‘We urge community members with information about the shooters to come forward,’ said Capt Mdlalose.
