Manguzi police performance assessed
Manguzi police station has been described as the worst performing police station in the uMkhanyakude district
THE Manguzi police station has been described as the worst performing police station in the uMkhanyakude district.
This prompted cluster Commander, Brigadier Sibusiso Cebekhulu, to convene a special meeting with relevant stakeholders last Friday, and to assess the station’s performance between October and December last year.
The meeting was attended by Manguzi police management, Mozambique border officials and Department of Community Safety and Liaison representatives.
It was revealed that car hijackings, business robberies and house robberies were the most problematic crime activities in the area.
uMkhanyakude cluster police spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Mdletshe, said most car hijacking victims were independent contractors.
‘Contractors are lured into the area by criminals who pose as customers. They target mostly building contractors, especially those who fit aluminium windows,’ said Mdletshe
‘They ask them to come to their homes for quotations. When they arrive they are hijacked, taken into the bushes where they are robbed of their valuables.
He urged business people to be more vigilant.
‘Whenever they have to visit Manguzi for business, they should first stop at the police station so that our officers can escort them to their destination for safety purposes.’
