A meter taxi driver considers himself lucky to have escaped serious injury, or even death, after one collapsed onto his car in Empangeni on Monday afternoon.
Zipho Mzimela (26) had just parked his car in Byrne Road in Empangeni when a steel pole dropped on top of his Golf.
Luckily for him, Zipho had just stepped out of his vehicle when the incident occurred.

‘I just heard a loud noise and saw my car being smashed,’ he said.
The right side of the car and the windscreen were shattered.
A close inspection of the pole revealed it was badly rusted.
Zipho reported the matter to the uMhlathuze Municipality and officials were sent to the scene.
The car is Zipho’s only source of income.
Zipho awaits the municipality’s response and hopes his car will soon be repaired so he can be back in business.
