Illegal immigrants stopped in their tracks

Until the approval of the deportation, the group will be detained at Kwambo SAPS

FOURTEEN Mozambique nationals were arrested in the early hours of Wednesday for entering South African soil illegally.

After crossing the South Africa-Mozambique border without passports, the illegal immigrants were travelling towards Mandeni on the N2 when their taxi were pulled over by police patrolling the highway, outside KwaMbonambi.

According to KwaMbonambi SAPS spokesperson Aubrey Msane, the vehicle and its passengers were searched when police realized the commuters were not South African citizens.

‘On closer examination, it became evident the passengers were all Mozambicans between the ages of 18 and 35,’ said Msane.

‘The Department of Home Affairs was notified of the arrests.

‘They came and documented the immigrants aiming to deport them to their country of origin once the deportation had been approved by their head office.

‘Only then will the immigrants be deported to Mozambique,’ Msane said.

Until the approval of the deportation, the group will be detained at the KwaMbonambi SAPS cells.
