Bakkie rams into motorbike at traffic lights on John Ross Parkway

Such was the force of the collision that the motorbike was flung 60 metres from the impact zone

A BAKKIE travelling at high speed rammed straight into the rear of a stationary motorbike waiting for the red traffic lights to change to green at the canal robots on the John Ross Highway on Sunday evening.

The female passenger on the bike died instantly, while her partner was seriously injured, including multiple fractures to his leg.

He was transported to Ngwelezana Hospital and was to undergo surgery on Monday.

‘We were parked alongside the bike at the traffic lights, both waiting for the lights to change,’ said the occupant of a vehicle who witnessed the tragedy.

‘The bakkie, coming from the direction of the beach, smashed right into the bike, sending it flying.

‘There were people on the back of the open bakkie and they were also flung out into the road.’

While a number of patients were treated on scene at the busy intersection, Bay Watch could not confirm reported deaths of any bakkie occupants.
