Unoccupied house in Meerense is proving a headache for other Pipe Fish residents

The unkempt property was for a time rented by tenants who reportedly partied long and loud into the early hours but now is occasionally used by school kids as a place to 'chill'

AN unoccupied home in Meerensee is proving a headache for other Pipe Fish residents as the steadily deteriorating house is posing health and safety issues.

The unkempt property was for a time rented by tenants who reportedly partied long and loud into the early hours but now is occasionally used by school kids as a place to ‘chill’.

The home now appears to have been abandoned and it is the filthy water remaining in the swimming pool and the uncut grass that are major causes for complaint.

The filthy swimming pool is home to hundreds of frogs that keep neighbours awake at night

‘We can hardly sleep at night because of the frogs that have bred in their hundreds in the pool, while the wild garden-that-was, is now home to snakes and rats,’ said one of the road’s residents.

‘There is no front gate and nothing to stop anybody entering the unlocked house, which is steadily going to ruin and has been vandalised.

‘It appears the power supply is still connected, which raises fears of an electrical fire that might start and spread to other properties.

‘The house could also be used as a hideout for criminals.

‘All this is having a negative influence on the value of our properties.’

The matter has been raised with the municipality, who have promised they will inspect the property and take appropriate action.

Attempts to contact the home owner were unsuccessful.
