Maritime Business Institute offers in-service training for certain qualifications
Graduate placement and guaranteed work experience
Maritime Business Institute (MBI) is on the warpath.
The institute is taking on the fight for learners who are unable to find employment because, despite having a qualification, they lack work experience.
In an unprecedented move – and probably the first among educational institutions – MBI is guaranteeing learners work experience and in-service training for certain qualifications, particularly in maritime and shipping.
Learners must meet the MBI’s qualifying criteria to access this wonderful opportunity.
Current MBI students are undergoing a structured work experience programme, at the end of which a detailed log book will be completed and signed off and stamped by the employer. Learners can then insert this signed work experience log book in their CV when applying for jobs.
Learners with this type of work experience will obviously stand a better chance of being employed, compared with someone with no work experience.
MBI has managed to place 25 of its graduates in permanent employment at the Port of Durban. It is envisaged that a further 25 will be placed in the port within the next two months.
MBI works with a confirmed pool of companies based at the Port of Durban that are willing to take on MBI students for work experience and in-service training.
The institution hopes to offer a similar work experience model to learners registering for engineering, social work and educare courses.
