Call for community to support CANSA events

The first is the 5km Gijima for CANSA fun run/walk in Empangeni this Sunday, and a clinic screening day on 22 February

THE Richards Bay CANSA Community Care Centre has two cancer awareness events planned for February and the community is invited to support the initiatives.

The first is the 5km Gijima for CANSA fun run/walk in Empangeni this Sunday, and a clinic screening day on 22 February.

The events, which are aimed at promoting cancer awareness and education in the community, will also raise much  needed funds for the organisation and commemorate World Cancer Day.

The 5km event takes place at Addison Park in Empangeni from 9am, with registration between 7am and 8.30am.
Goodie bags will be available for the first 50 early bird entrants.

Tickets are available on Quicket by searching for Gijima for CANSA eMpangeni 2020. The costs are R70 for adults and R50 for children.

For the screening day, the public can undergo a free lifestyle health assessment, with combined Pap smears and clinical breast examinations costing R330, clinical breast examinations alone R90, PSA blood tests R150, blood pressure R25 and glucose testing R35.

Bookings are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome.

For more information on the walk/run, contact Thobile on 083 2423368, while screening day bookings can be made with Stabile on 073 0754788.

Volunteers Shavathon

Planning of the 2020 CANSA 17th national Shavathon is under way and the organisation is calling for volunteers to avail themselves for the events that will be taking place on Saturday, 29 February at shopping centres countrywide.

The theme ‘Hope 2020’ is apt, as participants will be giving hope to cancer survivors and loved ones by showing solidarity with them in the fight against cancer as they stencil, spray or shave their hair.

The challenge is for each person to invite 20 people to join the fun event this year.

To register as a volunteer, phone 083 2423368 or email tgumede@cansa.org.za.
