WELL known Zululand DJ, Nkululeko Freedom Myeni (31), was shot and killed by an unknown gunman at his girlfriend’s home in Hlabisa last weekend.
It is reported that the victim, better known as DJ Slim, was with his girlfriend when someone knocked on the door at about 10pm.
According to the deceased’s girlfriend, Busisiwe Nhleko (34), Myeni was watching a movie at the time.
‘When Nkululeko opened the door, the gunman shot him in the head and he fell down on the floor. The shooter continued to shoot him until he was dead.
‘I was shivering with fright, thinking he would turn the gun on me as well, but fortunately he didn’t do that.
‘Our room-mates came in and called the police.
The traumatised Nhleko, who was taken to a friend’s house, indicated that DJ Slim might have had enemies.
‘I didn’t realise this until I saw a post on his Facebook page referring to threats he had received.’
uMkhanyakude regional police spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Mdletshe, confirmed the incident.
He said the victim sustained three gunshot wounds to the head and three to the shoulder.
A memorial service was held at Ihholo laMakhosi in Hlabisa and his funeral was held at the Nkodibe sports ground in Mtubatuba.
