1KZN TV ‘unaware’ of latest state decision
In a statement released by 1KZN TV board members on Thursday, it said they had 'not been informed of the case being declined or dismissed by the state'

THE 1KZN TV Board of Directors says it categorically stands by its decision to axe former station chairperson, Themba Fakazi.
The comments follow last week’s report in the Zululand Observer, which revealed that the state had declined to prosecute in the matter between 1KZNTV and Fakazi.
According to the investigating officer, the forensic report provided by the station – which alleged serious financial allegations against Fakazi – was deemed legally inadmissible as grounds on which to proceed with the criminal case.
However, in a statement released by 1KZN TV board members on Thursday, it said they had ‘not been informed of the case being declined or dismissed by the state’.
‘The 1KZN TV Board stands by its decision taken on 20 June despite Fakazi laying a charge of defamation against Station Manager Edwin Mncwango, for his dismissal.
‘Themba Fakazi’s removal followed a forensic report – requested by the High Court of SA, KwaZulu-Natal local division – in which Fakazi is alleged to have misappropriated funds to the value of approximately R6.5-million from 1KZN TV. A charge of theft was laid at the police,’ the statement read.
‘Until a court ruling on the matter has been finalised, 1KZN TV and its legal team will have no further comment on this matter.’
The board further said the ‘channel had grown from strength to strength’ since the dismissal of Fakazi.
‘Its viewership is fiercely loyal and has grown to more than two million by the end of December, 2019.’
Fakazi has steadfastly denied any wrongdoing and said the allegations were orchestrated in an attempt to tarnish his reputation.
