Woman faces murder charge after killing assailant

The incident took place at Makhilimba township in eShowe after 11pm, when Zwelihle Nene (26) allegedly broke into the 49-year-old woman’s home, where she was asleep with her six-and 10-year-old children

A MOTHER is facing murder charges after she killed the man who allegedly tried to rape her on New Year’s Day.

The incident took place at Makhilimba township in eShowe after 11pm, when Zwelihle Nene (26) allegedly broke into the 49-year-old woman’s home, where she was asleep with her six-and 10-year-old children.

The woman reported to a community leader that Nene had threatened her with a knife, forcing her to undress while he sexually assaulted her in full view of her children.

King Cetshwayo Cluster spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose said that the woman put up a fight and was hurt in the process.

She then told her attacker that she was willing to leave with him.

‘She said she would go with him and allow him to do what he wanted and that they needed to stop fighting.

‘She said she wanted to go out of the house where her children were but that she needed to go and fetch something out of the room. ‘She then returned with a bush knife and hit him with it, essentially killing him.’

The woman then called their community leader, who alerted the police.

She was treated at eShowe Hospital as she had been injured during the fight.

The woman made her first appearance at eShowe Magistrate’s Court on Thursday facing a murder charge.

She was released while the public prosecutor decides how or whether the woman be charged and tried, taking into consideration the element of self-defence.
