A KING Cetshwayo police task team arrested a 27-year old man for corruption, and confiscated R20 000 as an exhibit after he tried to bribe an investigating officer to release a murder suspect.
The man was arrested at eSikhaleni SAPS last Monday, with his cash. He appeared at eSikhaleni Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday and was remanded in police custody. He was expected to appear at the same court on Thursday for a formal bail application.
King Cetshwayo police spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, reported that the investigating officer was
approached by the suspect, who offered him money to release a person, linked to the murder of Induna of Maqeleni
Reserve outside eShowe, Jabulani Ngwenya.
‘Ngwenya was killed at his home in January 2019. The first suspect was arrested at KwaMashu men’s hostel and
charged with murder.
‘The second suspect was arrested early last month (December) at Ncemaneni Reserve in eShowe. ‘After his arrest, the recent suspect approached the investigating officer and offered him a bribe. The investigating officer notified his commanders and an operation was conducted.
‘On Monday last week, he arrived with his cash and was arrested and charged with corruption,’ said Mdlalose.
