A RICHARDS Bay police constable, accused of killing two siblings, appeared in the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The 38-year-old police officer faces two counts of murder following a shooting incident at Nseleni on Saturday morning.
Supported by family members, colleagues and Police and Prisons Civic Rights Union (Popcru) representatives, the accused was not asked to plead.
He was remanded in police custody until Monday for a formal bail application.
The accused is based at Operational Response Services (ORS) Richards Bay .
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate’s acting spokesperson, Sontaga Seisa, said it is alleged that two brothers, Velenkosini (32) and Sanele (24) Zulu, were fatally shot by the accused.
‘It is believed the accused had an argument with Sanele about the level of noise coming from his house throughout the night. Sanele allegedly responded by assaulting the accused.
‘On the way to the Nseleni satellite police station to open an assault case, the accused was confronted by the brothers and a further argument ensued,’ Seisa said.
‘The accused pulled his service pistol and shot and killed both brothers.’
