EMPANGENI residents have raised concerns about accessibility to city emergency services.
This follows an incident on Sunday when a house caught fire in Moberly Road and the fire department could not be reached.
One homeowner, Zonita Grobbelaar, said residents were forced to drive to the fire department and knock on doors and windows to get assistance.
‘We struggled to get firefighters to clean up our main road after a recent diesel spillage after an accident. The accident occurred at about 5am, and RTI arrived 40 minutes later at the accident scene and the firefighters cleaned up only one portion of the road after 8am.
‘The rest of about 50 litres of diesel spillage on the road was cleaned up after 1pm. We urged these departments to look into the matter for quick response,’ she said.
City of uMhlathuze Communications Manager, Mdu Ncalane, undertook to investigate the matter.
