Hluhluwe cops released on bail

The four were arrested by Hawks members of the Richards Bay Serious Organised Crime Unit on 14 November

FOUR Hluhluwe police constables accused of corruption, kidnapping and robbery, were granted R10 000 bail at the Mtubatuba District Court last Thursday.

The four were arrested by Hawks members of the Richards Bay Serious Organised Crime Unit on 14 November.

Constables Doctor Mthembu, Dumisani Sihlangu, Khayelihle Nhlenyama and NJ Ntuli will appear in the same court on 24 January.

It is alleged that on 16 October the accused stopped a Quantum taxi on the R22 at Mnqobokazi, near Hluhluwe.

The vehicle was transporting boxes of assorted counterfeit goods, and two of the suspects allegedly handcuffed the driver and loaded him in the back of the police van before driving to a secluded area, where they reportedly stole the goods and robbed the owner and taxi driver of belongings and cash.
