Northern KZN records world’s hottest temperatures
Mbazwana and Makathini were two of the world's 15 hottest towns last weekend

SCORCHING summer temperatures hit northern KZN at the end of November and beginning of December.
While one South African town thought it had set a new record high temperature of 54 degrees Celsius – which was later disputed and scrapped – Mbazwana in uMkhanyakude’s far northern reaches legitimately made it onto the 15 highest temperatures list in the world.

Recording a temperature of 43.1 degrees Celsius, Mbazwana’s airfield was placed eighth in the world for the highest temperatures recorded during the final weekend of November.
Topping this by just a fraction of a degree, Makathini recorded 43.3 degrees Celsius, placing it fifth among the world’s hottest places.
Others on the list were predominantly Australian towns and one in the United States.
