Police warn against ‘pens down’ parties

Police will be deployed in hotspot areas and at beaches

EXAMINATION time is now over and there are ‘pens down’ parties being planned all over the city.

Following past incidents of pupils being involved in drunken fights and car crashes, with some losing their lives, police have sent a stern warning to those attending students’ parties.

This weekend, police will be deployed in hotspot areas and at beaches to ensure those who use drugs and alcohol in public places are arrested.

‘Drug-taking among our youth is destroying their lives and future.

‘We want schools to be safe for our children and for them to empower themselves with knowledge for their future,’ said KZN police Captain Nqobile Gwala.

Parents and communities were also urged to educate their children with regard to the dangers of indulging in drugs and to inform police on the whereabouts of drug dealers.

Anyone with information on criminal activities is encouraged to make use of the MySAPS app by downloading the app on any iPhone or android device.
